MOVE-IN: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

We know what you’re thinking. Can’t wait until move-in? We’re not so patient either. That’s why we created a list of only the most important need-to-knows for your upcoming move.

In the meantime, drop us a line if you have any questions or just want to chat. No ridiculously long phone menu when you call us – we promise.

COVID-19 UPDATE

What should I expect on move-in day?

  • The CDC recommends that face coverings are not necessary for those that are fully vaccinated. We will not require face coverings on the day of move-in, but we continue to recommend that anyone who is not fully vaccinated wear one while in community spaces.
  • Let us know if you are not feeling well and need to delay your move-in. Your health and safety, and that of all our residents are our priorities.

MOVE-IN AND FIRST PAYMENT

We love that you already have move-in marked in your calendar for 9:00am on August 13, 2021. And to show our appreciation, we’ve compiled important information you’ll need to know. Sure, we’re asking you to read about late charges and paperwork, but it doesn’t make our gratitude less real.

When you arrive at Lark Chapel Hill for move-in, please follow the signs to check in and pick up the keys to your new home.

If you want to avoid late charges (and who doesn’t?), you’ll want to make sure that your first installment, along with any administrative fees not yet paid, are paid by August 1, 2021. Late charges will apply unless we have received the first installment payment within the five-day grace period (by August 6, 2021). Checks or money orders should be made payable to Lark Chapel Hill and can be mailed or brought directly to our office.

You can also pay online through the resident portal using a debit card, credit card or electronic checking transfer, or by automatic recurring charge to your debit card, credit card or bank account. There are no conveniences fees when paying from your bank account or with a check.

GUARANTOR FORM OR PRE-PAYMENT

Class hasn’t even started yet and we’re already talking about paperwork. Lucky for you, this won’t be graded.

Nothing ruins move-in faster than missing paperwork (trust us). If you haven’t done so already, please submit your guarantor form. We’ll need to approve this before you’re able to move-in. No guarantor? Sign up with Leap by selecting this option on your application or by calling our office today. Alternately, you will be required to prepay the final two installments in advance in order to move in, as described in your Housing Agreement.

UTILITIES

Prior to move-in, you or one of your apartment-mates must contact Duke Energy Progress to establish service in that resident’s name prior to move-in day. Please contact your apartment-mates to determine in whose name the service will be established, then contact Duke Energy Progress at 800-452-2777 to set up your account. Please be prepared to provide proof that the electricity service has been established in one of your names prior to move-in day.

RENTER’S LIABILITY INSURANCE

It’s probably not something you normally think about, but you are required to have at least $100,000 of liability protection by the time you move in, and throughout your stay with us. This doesn’t cost much, and is designed to protect you if you accidentally cause a fire or flood. As unlikely as that sounds, if something happens, you’ll be very glad to have it. How easy have we made it to take care of this requirement? You don’t have to do anything at all; we’ll automatically charge your account $11 per installment, waive the requirement to provide separate insurance, and buy our own insurance to cover the same risks. If you have your own liability insurance and don’t want to be charged for this, please upload your insurance certificate and we’ll let you know right away if it meets the requirements. EXPRESS CHECK-IN

To show you how glad we are that you’re here, we have a special just-for-you perk: express check-in, AKA the key to beating long lines on move-in day.

To get on the fast track for check-in, click here for the resident portal link and register online. From here, you’ll want to make sure you can answer yes to each of the questions below:

  • Did you make your first installment payment?
  • Did you enter your vehicle information (if applicable)?
  • Did you sign any pending documents?

If you answered yes to all of the above, you’re one step closer to your new home. Besides that, all you need to bring with you is a valid photo ID (and an appetite—we’ll have snacks waiting for you). Contact us if you have any questions.

Bringing a four-legged friend? Please be sure to let us know by clicking here so all of your documents are fully signed before move-in. We will need to know the type of animal, breed, and weight in order to send you the pet addendum. In order for your fur fam to officially join our community, we require a signed pet addendum and consent from roommates (if applicable).

PACKING LIST

What you take with you matters. And to help you get a jumpstart on moving, we’ve put together a master packing list for you. Quite simply, you’ll find everything you need. And nothing you don’t.

Living room

  • Lamps
  • Decorations
  • Window covering for patio/balcony door

Bedroom

  • Lamps
  • Bedding – beds are full XL size
  • Towels and additional linens
  • Laundry basket
  • Alarm clock (or maybe just your phone)
  • Ethernet cable
  • Trash bin

Kitchen

  • Cookware and dishes (pots, pans, glasses, silverware)
  • Cooking utensils (tongs, spatulas, etc.)
  • Trash bin and garbage bags

You’ll want to spend some time getting familiar with the Community Policies. You can find these here. If you want a hard copy, we won’t judge you. We might even high-five you. And if our policies are the only thing you read all day, then job well done!
